Science teacher for 22 years.

5 schools from the top 2% to a school in special measures.

Examiner for 13 years.

Tutor for 17 years.

I can tutor science at GCSE to all levels and A-level Biology.

I have taught AQA, Edexcel, OCR Gateway and OCR 21st century specifications.

I have tutored all the specifications I have taught and Edexcel iGCSE.

I have DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate and QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).

I have been an examiner since 2011. I have marked AQA, OCR 21st Century and OCR Gateway.
I have marked 45-50 papers. I was a team leader on 8 physics papers and 8 biology papers- leading, standardising (ensuring examiners can using the mark scheme) and checking the quality of marking for over 100 examiners.
Now I write mark schemes for 2 papers in a small team of senior examiners and compile the examiners reports together for presentations to teachers of OCR. I have also presented to teachers across the country in a few Webinars on how to set up a mock, mark it and standardise the marking.
I am a martial artist and regularly go rock climbing and surfing. I also read a lot.

Working for OCR has given me a lot of experience of what examiners are looking for.
Since 2018 I have written 2 GCSE mark schemes a year, within a small team. This needs a deep understanding of the specification, what we as examiners are looking for and ensuring that the mark scheme is clear and understandable for examiners and teachers to use to mark the scripts.
I am skilled in spotting areas of weakness, strengths and common misconceptions quickly. I primarily start with questions and use direct and explicit teach difficult concepts clearly. I use evidence based teaching techniques to ensure I offer the best strategies to build up my tutees knowledge. I also teach the best revision techniques that can be applied to other subjects.
I have been highly successful in achieving results well above targets. Currently all my tutoring comes through recommendations.
I am on LinkedIn, under Stephan Eck, if you need further details. I am also on Twitter @Barnsley1999.

My rates are £60 per hour and I tutor for 45 minutes. This makes it £45 per session. 45 minutes is perfect for concentration time and to cognitively optimise working memory. I find that the last 15 minutes for 1 hours tutoring is a waste of your money. My tutees not just like my sessions, but really build confidence.
My first session is just a meeting between your self and myself. This is important, because you can see whether you think I am the tutor for your son/daughter. This is free.
I will always finish, even if it is 5 minutes over to ensure that the concepts, skills and knowledge of the session is complete. I also catch up with parents periodically to discuss progress and steps to be taken. This is all included in the £45. On top I look over tutees mock papers, to identify areas to improve. Again this is part of the £45. Often I ask parents to be there for the first 10-30 minutes as I explain how learning happens, long-term studying advice and how we can overcome the limits of our working memory (the part that takes in new knowledge and it brings previous memories to solve questions).
